Zagreb Food Tour Video
AMAZING FOOD EXPERIENCE
This food tour is an absolute must when you first visit Zagreb! We had an early start at 8am where we went to the bakery and it was pretty much eating non stop. I got to try a lot (food coma level) of local delicacies from breads to cheeses (award winners I might add) to charcuterie to special dishes and on and on and on! Zagreb was basically a huge buffet table on this tour. This tour doesn’t feel like a tour at all, it feels more like spending the day with a friend from breakfast to way after lunch! Thank you Karmela for taking me around your beautiful city and telling me stories about Croatian life and sites.
I booked this tour as a way to kill a day in Zagreb while I waited for friends to arrive. It turned out to be one of the best days of my entire trip. Karmela is an exceptional guide. She was very customer service oriented, friendly, and a real delight. She commanded a wealth of knowledge not only about Croatian cuisine, but also about history, culture, and current events. I learned a great deal about the country, and it really enriched my entire stay in Croatia. The food was delicious, we went at our own pace and were not rushed, and it was a superlatively enjoyable day! I highly recommend.
Our class started with a spectacular walk through the Dolac produce market. Steps away are the state of the art cooking school. The kitchen workstations were set and up and ready for us to start on the planned menu – Black Risotto, Fish brodetto and Apricot strudel. Everything tasted delicious and our instructor was so friendly knowledgeable and a joy to spend the hours with. Travel and Food go hand in hand, you learn so much about the culture through food, wine and conversation. The beauty of this class is that I left with so MUCH more than cooking skills. It was the HIGHLIGHT of my visit to the remarkable city of Zagreb. I felt as if I had shared an incredible meal with one of my family! This class is great for everyone – couples, families, friends, business groups ect. Don’t miss it.
We absolutely loved our food tour with Karmela. It is the perfect introduction to Zagreb, as it combines food, history and culture. The tour is very well balanced with eating, walking, eating, sightseeing, eating, walking, eating and eating :-). It is not rushed at all so there is plenty of time between each “course” for digestion. It was the highlight of our stay in Zagreb, and is THE BEST food tour we have ever done.
Thank you to Karmela. She was so wonderful. Communication was seamless with her. She wanted to make sure we would be okay with the menu chosen. She also made us aware that another couple would be joining us too. She shared her passion for food and cooking with us and was super engaging. We made Sopernik, Black cuttlefish risotto, Brodetto and Apple fritters. Also if we had a chance we would have also booked her Food tour! ( this includes recommendations that aren’t in Lonely planet). 10/10 would recommend!!!
I was born and live in Canada; but my father was born in Zagreb. Whenever I am in Zagreb I eat lots of Strukli. It is one of my favorite Croatian dishes. I was so happy to find out that there was a cooking class on Strukli at Zagreb Gourmet. I had a private class with Karmela which was an experience that I will never forget. Because I was the only person in the class, Karmela also taught me to make a seasonal Plum Strudel. Both the Strukli and the Strudel turned out really well and both were absolutely delicious. I can’t wait to try to make them at home. I would recommend taking a class with Karmela at the Zagreb Gourmet. I know that the next time I am in Zagreb I will go back to Zagreb Gourmet to try some of the other classes that are offered.
